(Beauty isn’t always about red lipstick and popping highlight, although I LOVE that part and always will, sometimes we have to get a little bit techy and educated about other factors that play a big role).
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is a moisture-binding molecule that helps keep the skin hydrated, glowing and also looking plump! Winner. This is the most important factor of Hyaluronic Acid is its incredible ability for retaining moisture within our skin. Just one molecule alone can hold over 1,000 times its own weight in water! Impressive.
Bizarrely, Hyaluronic Acid naturally exists inside the human body, on average we have around 15 grams of it. But as we age, we produce less and less of this acid. Therefore, lots of skincare brands have added this acid to their products. Especially antiageing ranges. Giving us the products we need to boost our levels of Hyaluronic acid. Which will, in turn, help our skin to retain more water once again! Magical…

How Hyaluronic Acid Benefits Skin?
I found some brilliant information whilst doing a little research on the Dermalogica website.
‘Scientific studies have shown that Hyaluronic Acid helps to improve skin hydration and production of collagen, fight free radicals, maintain skin elasticity, and even has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help with wound healing.’
Science aside, and if you are still with me and not confused. We need Hyaluronic acid in our skin to keep as much moisture as possible/as much as our skin needs. This will help to keep our skin looking beautifully hydrated, glowing, radiant and all that other good stuff.
Think of it like this, Hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge, retaining a large amount of water. This will then plump out any fine lines, wrinkles etc. Making our skin look more youthful. As if that wasn’t good enough, it will be acting as a 2-in-1 by giving our skin intense hydration, so we won’t be looking dull or lacklustre. This explains so much on how hyaluronic acid benefits skin!

Which Products Contain Hyaluronic Acid?
Although I’ve studied skincare for years, I still find it quite complicated talking about cells and molecules etc, so I hope I’m making this sound quite simple for you guys to understand. I remember taking my first few skincare classes and wondering what on earth the Stratum Granulosum was. Don’t ask! However, to my surprise, I learned very quickly that it’s not a Harry Potter spell, that’s for sho’!
Now we know what Hyaluronic Acid is and what it does. I’m sure you would all like to know how you can implement this into your daily skincare routines. I would also like to share my experience with this molecule/ingredient.

This is one of my favourite skincare products at the mo! I pop this cream/gel around my eyes before I go to bed. It is brilliant at minimising dark circles, fine lines and any puffiness you may get around your eyes.
